I received a bulletin from the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association today regarding a recall on pig ear treats from a particular manufacturer. I’ve pasted the bulletin below.
RECALL OF PIG EARS FOR PET TREATS
Manufacturer States Pet Treats Have Possible Contamination With Salmonella
Keys’ Manufacturing Co., Inc. of Paris, Illinois has recalled Pig Ears for Pet Treats due to Salmonella contamination. According to the Associated Press report, one dog’s illness has been linked to the treats to date. Also according to the media report, the treats were distributed to Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. Consumers are instructed to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
According to the company’s statement, the product was distributed in 100 count cases packed in cardboard boxes shipped between Sept. 27-Oct. 6, 2010; Nov. 1-Nov. 29, 2010; and Jan. 3-Jan. 25, 2011. The UPC number is 7 61094 15000. On two sides of the cardboard box it says: PET TREATS NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION and on the other two sides PET PRODUCTS 100 PCS. SMOKED AND 100 PCS REGULAR.
